Tire Drive

TIRE DRIVE Tire drive system is the most popular type of indoor bike trainer. Good: • Most natural pedal feel like riding on the actual outside road • Better grip due to the roller touches the rubber tire material directly • Maximum moment of inertia due to contacting the outer edge of wheel Bad: • Tire will have to be worn down during use • Some tread patterns like knobby MTB tire make terrible vibration and noise There are two types of frame available on the tire drive trainer; Stationary and Gravity.   STATIONARY FRAME – Supports bike on a rigid frame Good: • Great & solid stability • Allows standing & dancing riding • Greater weight capacity (up to 120 kgs including bike) Bad: • Too solid, not so natural feeling • Precise roller pressure adjustment required • Shorter tire life (if the adjustment is not good) GRAVITY FRAME – Supports bike on a freely swingable frame Good: • Your own weight applies onto the roller automatically. No manual adjustment required • Longer tire life (if air pressure is maintained properly) • Natural riding feel due to the flexibity of frame Bad: • Less stability. Rim Drive

RIM DRIVE Rim drive system is Minoura's world patent. The only one solution for MTB's knobby tire. The resistance unit is driven by the rubber roller touching the rim side wall via a V-belt. The rollers are pushed strongly toward the rim by internal springs to avoid slippage, so any width of rim can be used. Rollers

ROLLERS Another type of trainer for intermediate or higher level riders to get operationally-oriented skills. You must ride on the freely spinning roller drums and keep balance without any support. Beginners are not recommended to try rollers alone. Good: • The most natural riding feel like as on the actual outside road • Gentle to the tires so almost no need to worry about tire wear.
